CESCI-Carpathia – Law Faculty UPJŠ Košice meeting

Based on the signed cooperation agreement on the implementation of the project between CESCI-Carpathia and the Faculty of Law of P.J. Šafárik University in Košice, a regular meeting of representatives of both parties was held on July 16, 2026.  It is a strategic project #ACCESS – Legal Accessibility at the Slovak-Hungarian Border, which is funded by the INTERREG Slovakia-Hungary program and runs almost throughout the entire programming period; The project has completed the first half of its 6-year implementation period.

Rudolf Bauer, Director of the CESCI-Carpathia Association, and Eva Janičková, Legal Specialist, informed Alena Krunková, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law, about the status of the project implementation.  The main topics that the project addresses, based on the suggestions of citizens and institutions in the border region, are: health care – EMS and outpatient services, transport – VAT in public bus services, environment – invasive species, cross-border sale of local products, VIDA process – e-invoicing, cross-border work, language barriers and more. Specific case 53, mentioned in the Help Desk, concerns Danube Mayflies, which are drawn into a light trap on bridges on the cross-border Ipeľ River. The Vice-Dean was also informed about the successful presentation of the first 3 years of project implementation to all representatives of EU Member States at the first implementation meeting of the new European BridgeforEU Directive. Another question was how to involve students in “investigative” legal analyses of specific cases of the project. By immersing themselves in these unresolved real border disputes, students will gain invaluable practical experience and turn legal theory into solutions that will help thousands of citizens in the Slovak-Hungarian borderland. The director of the association also thanked the Vice-Dean for her help in processing in-depth legal analyses by the employees of the Faculty of Law, which help to find legal solutions in individual project topics.
